Immersive Arts explores how digital technologies can become another material within my practice.
Working across painting, sculpture, installation and digital media, the project investigates how physical and virtual experiences can coexist without competing for attention. Rather than treating technology as spectacle, the research focuses on subtle interventions that deepen interpretation, reward curiosity and encourage slower encounters with artworks.
The physical work always comes first.
Digital media extends the world rather than replacing it.
Within The Constant State, immersive technologies allow imagined places to exist across multiple layers of experience. Paintings become portals to hidden archives. Sculptures reveal concealed histories. Familiar spaces acquire new narratives through interaction, allowing audiences to uncover evidence that cannot exist within the physical object alone.
Current areas of development include:
Augmented Reality
Interactive Painting
Digital Archives
Environmental Storytelling
Prototype Development
Public Exhibition
Supported through the Immersive Arts Explore programme, this research has provided the opportunity to experiment with image recognition, spatial interaction and digital publishing while remaining grounded in material practice. The aim is not to make technology more visible, but to make imagination more tangible.
As The Constant State continues to evolve, digital media becomes another way of constructing imagined places, complementing painting, sculpture, writing and installation rather than existing as a separate discipline.
